CZURDA RIESLING

Sweet Temptation, 2020

And again – a fantastic year! Even better than the previous – it’s as simple as that; there was more time to grow the roots.

«This is neither a Welschriesling nor a dry Rhine Riesling in typical Hungarian style; this is a CZURDA Riesling»

CZURDA Riesling is a light, straw-yellow colour with a pleasing minerality forming an elegant blend of ripe fruits such as apricot, peach, and mango together with pinches of acacia and lime. The fruit flavours are full-bodied, elegant, and clean without fuss. The wine tastes sweet, but this is perfectly balanced by an acidic structure. It is very refreshing while also offering a long finish.

The second vintage from this small vineyard in Győrszemere was from the 2020 crop. Only 1,350 bottles have been produced so far, but this will more than double in the next five years. The production area is located near Pannonhalma, where the Benedictine Abbey aligns with the good reputation of Hungarian Rieslings. However, this wine is significantly different from the usual fare, and unique for Hungary. There is no comparable Riesling in the whole country.

Our grapes grow in a mineral-rich soil of loess and limestone on our six-year-old vines. We harvest, by hand, relatively late in the season. The fruit is pressed as a whole grape and fermented with Mosel yeast for more than nine months. We use steel tanks rather than wooden barrels, and the wine emerges with fresh and crisp characteristics. The wine contains 7.8 g/l acid and 32.2 g/l sugar. Some call it ‘spring water’ because it contains only 11.5% alcohol.

We recommend drinking this wine at cellar temperature. There are countless food-matching possibilities so you will never get bored with our excellent wine.
